Bible Reading Highlights

By Mark Fang, Discipleship class 2018

Date: 2 January 2019 . All I read today: .

Best thing I marked today: “If you do what is right, will you not be ac-cepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.”
Genesis 4:7 NIV

Thought: We need to trust that if we do what is right according to God’s standard, that God will accept us. That we need to rule over our sinful nature to avoid doing things that are not right.

How it impressed me: Do my actions show that I put God’s acceptance accordingly to His standard at the heart of my decision making? Or do I allow our own sinful desires cloud my ability to make decisions that glori-fy God?

Many times my actions are not focused on God and praising God for His power and His wonderful creation. My focus is on things that won’t ever fulfill or sustain me. I realise I need to pray continually to God, remind myself of the promises He has provided me and to seek Him first in all that I do.

It is a good reminder that God will accept me if I do what is right accord-ingly to His standard. This is difficult as my sinful nature is “crouching at your door”, which yells the loudest when plans or dreams I hope to achieve are not immediately fulfilled.

God wants me to be obedient to His will and trust He has His own plan for me, that I must continue to be faithful.

I pray to God that He gives me the strength to rule over my sinful nature and to acknowledge God’s standards are worth abiding by and choose to be obedient to Him daily.
