A Reflection on the COVID-19 Situation

COVID-19 has brought the country to a standstill. We have been forced to worship, work and study from the confines of our homes. Yet, while we face nationwide lockdown and its repercussions, we still have the opportunity to choose our response.
Choose to rely on God.
It is easy to feel lost in this time of uncertainty, but the Psalmist reminds us of our God’s unending constancy; “His love endures forever.” When faced with feelings of frustration or helplessness, let us not forget how our God is ready to hear and bear the weight of our worries. We need not disregard our feelings, but rather, choose to lift them to God. In doing so, we can hold onto hope in the ultimate truth; our Father’s unending love for us.
“I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33
Choose to show gratitude.
While it is easy to focus on what we lack during this time, 1 Thessalonians 5:18 reminds us to, “give thanks in all circumstances.” Last Friday saw our youths ‘Zoom-ing in’ to fellowship, and we are so privileged to have access to technology. Maintaining connections with our brothers and sisters is made possible through God’s provision, and for that we choose to remain grateful.
“I feel so happy to know that even as we struggle with the health situation, we can reach out to one another and bridge the distance.” - Eliza Chin
Choose how we spend our time.
With 4 weeks' worth of time to fill, restlessness is bound to take hold. With this in mind, Hebrews 10:25 prompts us to action; “... not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.” We can take this time to reconnect with God; spending time in His word and presence, and sharing it. When we seek God, His love manifests as peace in our hearts, so may we encourage each other to con-tinue in His work, every day.
“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.” Colossians 3:15
Blessings, and stay safe everyone.
