Lay Ministry

As the lay leader of RCMC English Service, my key roles are to represent the laity and also working closely with Pastor James in leading the laity in fulfilling God’s work, our church’s mission and also our objective of “Pray to connect, equip to serve”.

Lay leader together with pastor work with leaders of our church (Mission & Evangelism, Christian Education and Worship & Music Ministry) to launch and strengthen ministries that build discipleship. It is important for our church to not only proclaim the gospel but also nurture disciples so that they, in turn, can witness for Jesus and nurture new believers to grow in Christ.

An important part of lay ministry is listening and caring for our laity. Lay leaders plan with other leaders in the church for various events especially celebrating the ministry of our lay members on Laity Sunday and also Parent’s Day. This year we also conducted a review of all the fellowships across both Chinese and English service. Our objective is for everyone in the church to have a fellowship and small group that they can belong to so that they can grow in Christ. The review process identified the needs of setting up additional Young family SG and also Tertiary students SG in the Chinese service. EF & YF reviews also helped lay leader and pastor to better understand our fellowships so that we can work together in aligning our various ministries and fellowships to building a church that is after God’s heart.

It is my hope as the English lay leader to see that as a church we do not only care and actively participate in ministries in our own church but also to share the love of Christ beyond the church wall. It is not only God’s commandment to love our neighbours but it is also our Methodist spirit to live out the love of God and be concerned with our neighbours in our community and offer Christ to those we meet. Today is Laity Sunday so whilst we celebrate the contributions of our laity in the body of Christ, let it also be a reminder for all of us to take God’s love into the world by living out our faith in our workplace, our home and our community.
